GC45 Day 8

Once my morning rituals were completed, I plunged headfirst back into GC45 preparations. The day began with the Clarifying Questions segment of the work. There isan immense catalogue of over 60 motions and 40 reports available on the website. Each item offers an opportunity for clarification, with questions that have been asked and replies or sometimes the lack thereof. It’s a meticulous process: cross-referencing each query with its source document is both time-consuming and mind-numbing. But it has to be done.

By the time I surfaced, it was already creeping up on 2 p.m.—and I hadn’t eaten.

Ribfest is on in London, and the thought of those smoky delights stirred my appetite. But I had no interest in the ordeal: traffic, parking battles, endless lines, and paying a premium for the privilege. I took the smart man’s route—called ahead to Point BBQ in Springfield, climbed into the car, and made the 22-minute drive. I’d never eaten there until yesterday, and now twice in two days. Worth every kilometre. If I had to rank the meal, it’d come a close second only to Tunnel BBQ in its prime.

On the way back, I extended my mini-break with a quick detour to The Frozen Cow for my daily treat. Tanner, the owner, was working the register, and today’s cone was on him. A generous gesture that didn’t go unnoticed. Much appreciated.

It was back into the GC45 rabbit hole until 6 p.m., when I finally called it a day. Supper was a comfy combo of leftover jambalaya and a new experiment: homemade Air Fryer garlic toast. I used Dempster Honey Oat bread, smeared with a paste of butter, garlic powder, and parsley flakes. Popped them into the Air Fryer at 400°F for 5 minutes each, flipping halfway. The result? Delicious.

Part of the evening was spent getting ahead of the curve for the week by preparing Wednesday’s social media post. It’s a gentle nudge to the Facebook community—a reminder and encouragement to come out to the Holy Diner this Thursday.

It’s more than a meal. It’s a chance to connect, share stories, and enjoy that warm spirit of fellowship that makes Thursday something to look forward to.

Evening wrapped up with some TV, the CTV News, and then bed. But tomorrow marks something special: Brulotte’s corn market opens for the season. As tradition goes, my standard lunch until departure will be three ears of corn a day. It’s good to treat yourself.
