Mary and Keith's
Excellent Adventure
2003
July 7, 2003 - Dryden to Winnipeg
Up and at em earlier today - Into Dryden with the truck to the Ford Dealers to get an oil change. They squeezed us in and we waited in the showroom. After the oil change we went to find a computer place. For some reason my email has stopped sending letters - will receive OK but will not send. I can send through koakonnect web site but is a pain with no address book set up. Also I did some Database work for Bill and want to mail him the new file but the site will not handle it because of size restrictions. Anyway at a Wilson Office supply place I talked them into emailing bill the file I needed sent and talked about my problem. Their technician suggested that it might be a problem with Norton Anti Virus and suggested turning it off and trying it. This will require some careful manipulation as we do not want to get any virus infections while we are doing this. On a hedge I bought a Panda Anti virus program to install based upon their recommendation. Computers and Cell Phones - both are frustrating. I forgot to mention that we have had spotty at best cell phone reception for the total trip and we are carrying two cell phones. Anyway back to the camp around 11:30 packed up the trailer and on the road for Winnipeg. We phoned and got a reservation so as to take off any worry about having to get there at any specific time. Stopped ion Dryden on the way through for a A&W lunch. Overcast and rainy drive all the way to Winnipeg - Fought a strong headwind also - lousy gas mileage I am sure. We took the scenic route through Kenora rather than the bypass and filled up. Pretty town but did not see much of Lake of the Woods. Did see the main dock full of float planes instead of the expected boats. Next stop the Manitoba Visitor Center - free coffee and facilities. Arrived at our campsite about 5:30 PM checked in no problem and set up on a good site no problem - we qare getting to be old hands at this - actually I lied. First set up we were all unhooked and on jacks when it was discovered that we were about 15 inches short on our electrical connection. Had to re hook and pull forward about 20 inches. Another lesson learned. That is three camps where an extra 30 amp extension would come in handy - perhaps I will get the supplies and make a 30 footer. At the suggestion of the trailer camp we went to a local restaurant Maxime - excellent. High-class decor with casual dress code. Large quantities ordered a calamarie and a deep fried mushroom appetizer both came on platters both were more than the two of should eat. Mary had Manitoba Pickerel and I had Lamb Chops both came with salad plus potatoes and vegetables. Also as it turned out they came with rice also - we found it strange to have potatoes and rice served together. Anyway we could not finish our meals. A short hop to the Casino - getting to be a habit - and then back to our trailer Mary to bed and me to the computer.
