Mary and Keith's
Excellent Adventure
2003
July 6, 2003 - Thunder Bay to Dryden
Well it is back on the road again - however as usual it is 11 o'clock before we get going. Packing up and hitching up is getting to be routine. We went first to Kanabeka Falls. A Provincial park on the west side of Thunder Bay that bills itself as the Niagara of the north. While very beautiful it is definitely not a second Niagara. We wandered both sides and through the information center. I got several good photographs and will include a picture page on the net of the falls. We left Thunder Bay area and headed for Dryden. We did phone ahead for a site at Aaron Provincial Park so there was no timing pressure. We stopped in Ignace for lunch at Ron's Fish and Chips. Drive was more restful terrain but threatened rain all day. Got to the Provincial Park checked in and pulled on to our site and it began to rain. We just waited it out and then got set up after the first batch of rain. It was a bit like the Kaiser River because the complete are around us drained through our site. A real flowing creek for a while. After we were set up it started to rain harder and suddenly there was a knock on the door. It was the girl from the front office. We were in a tornado watch. Next came a sever thunder storm with close lightning and harsh thunder cracks - we even at one point considered running for the shelter of the concrete contort station. Anyway it stopped and Mary and I took a break went down to the lake and I did a little fishing - no catching. After this we came back and cooked supper me the pork chops and Mary the potatoes and raw veggies. We then managed a tour around town and the large pulp mill. After we returned we were informed that we were still under a watch until midnight. As it is Sunday we phoned everyone - could not get Martha or Grandma will try tomorrow. Back to the camp, Mary to her smocking and me to more fishing. I actually got three solid hits and one pike to the dock. After darkness set in we had our cribbage games and then Mary to bed and I finished my story (RD condensed book)
