Today we are staying in Thunder Bay. First order of business was breakfast at Hoito. We had noticed their pancakes were very popular so we decided to try them. Excellent, even though we took our own they had sugarless syrup. We had to line up to get in. After breakfast and a short trip (1/2 hour) back to the trailer to get the camera we were off to the recreated Fort William. This was a new experience for us as it is the first commercial - non-military fort we have visited. Lovely day for the visit - actually maybe even a little hot. Following Mary's excellent map reading we had not problem getting to the Fort. It is actually not located in the original spot but in an area reclaimed for the park. It is big. In the picture page I have included a link to a series of photos of the fort showing most of the buildings and attractions. We spent over six hours walking and enjoying. The inhabitants - mostly students on a summer job - tried to retain an impression of being in the period of the fort and used this tense in all of their conversation. They were very knowledgeable - in fact it was impressive to say the least - but I must admit I would rather deal in today's tense and have them answer questions this way rather than the method employed. We were on time to participate in a tour and we stayed with it for about half the day but it was very in depth and included little plays at each stop and it finally was to much so we wandered the rest of the areas dropping in to buildings and enjoying it at our own pace. Fort is well done and worth a visit if you are in the area. After we left the fort we dropped by the hospital to see how Carol Holmes had made out in her surgery - she was still waiting for an OR room. Did not stay to long as Mary was waiting in the truck. Carol suggested the Cumberland Restaurant as a good choice for supper and we took her up on it. Excellent - Chinese food with quantities more than we could eat. After supper we came back tot he trailer - 8 PM and George Saarinen came to visit until about 10 PM and then we played cribbage - three games Mary went to bed and I prepared the pictures from the day to go on the net.
