Mary and Keith's
Excellent Adventure
2003
July 1, 2003 - Canada Day in Sault Ste. Marie
Slept like babies last night. Got up around 9 AM and had a leisurely breakfast of Pancakes and Bacon. Mary did the inside work and I cooked on the Coleman stove and Barbecue both with grills. While Mary cleaned up I used the KOA Internet station to check email and send out a letter we are on our way. Enjoyed the morning Mary with her paper and me with creating these pages for the Internet. Around noon we ventured down to the Ontario Information Bureau. From there we parked at the Casino and walked the riverfront to the pavilion for the opening of the Canada Day celebrations. Lovely walk stopped and watched the Canadian locks open, enjoyed the river and arrived right at 2:00 PM for the opening ceremonies. Actually it became boring fast - speeches, speeches speeches. We bought ourselves drumsticks and wandered back to the Casino. Once again we tried our luck at Blackjack. The reverse of Yesterday Mary donated and I recovered some of my donation. Sat next to a gentleman from near Stratford, just bought a Motor Home and he and his wife are wandering towards Victoria - small world. Actually Yesterday at supper met a couple doing the same only staying in Motels and travelling long days and tonight while I was cooking supper talked to a man, also camped at the KOA from Lyndsay and he and his wife are also doing the same leisurely cross country trip. Anyway enjoyed the afternoon at the Casino good conversation, the players and the staff were very pleasant and talkative - it really was a social event rather than gambling. Only drawback was we were at a smoking table and it finally bothered Mary so we took our leave. Back to the trailer where we collaborated on a delicious meal of Rizzouto (spelling?), corn shiskabobs, wine, tea, sherbet for Mary and sucrose free ice cream for me, all purchased yesterday at the grocery store. Once again Mary did the inside work and I fired up the Barbecue. After supper and cleanup (I dried) we meandered on down to the waterfront to watch the fireworks. As we had said good night to Joe yesterday we phoned Staphanie and said good night - was neat as she talked back to us over the phone. They were excellent but the real show was the passage of humanity along the boardwalk in front of our seats. We sat and waited for about 45 minutes but we sure were not bored. Back at the trailer by about 11:30 Mary to bed am me to my computer. Hopefully by Thunder Bay I will have this all ready to start publishing on the web. Tomorrow going to try for Ney Provincial Park just past Marathon.
